On Friday I shared with you a wild turkey egg that Matt had found while walking with Baxter. On Saturday while clearing one of our very over-grown areas, I found turkey eggs.
Look at these.
From the looks of the nest and the feel of the eggs, these are not from this season.
I’m a bit dismayed that this clutch was obviously not successful. But I’m ecstatic that I got to see this nest.
Ahh, I need some birds of my own.
Wow! I have never seen a single wild turkey egg let alone a whole nest full! Too bad they didn’t make it. Maybe the mother will have more success this year.
That’s my hope too, Sarah. We see turkeys so rarely around the farm. I was pretty amazed to find this nest, especially since it’s fairly close to the house–in fact it’s extremely close to the graden.
You need some chickens! We’re three weeks into our life as hen herders and it’s great. They couldn’t be easier to look after and fresh eggs every day!
That’s so exciting for you–and jealousy inducing for me. I loved having chickens, ducks and geese growing up, and I’m excited to have them in my life again. Unfortunately, I need to rebuild the coop first. What we have is not going to cut it!
Aren’t they handsome! Maybe you will see some little turkeys somewhere else on the farm this year. 😀
